The Federation Cup is one of the largest gatherings of women tennis contestant teams the worlds over. It is one of the prestigious and popular women tennis events held globally. It was founded by International Tennis Federation, in the year of its 50th inaugural celebration in 1963. However, it emerged winners in the next round opposite Trinidad & Tobago. Again in the first round it defeated Guatemala by 2-1 and beat the pool-B final opponents Bolivia by 2-0.

Chile at the 2001 Federation Cup got enrollment in the Group I, American Zone. Chile just could shift it to the upper pool in the same group, which just recorded two small wins in the preliminary rounds. Chile lost its first encounter opposite Bahamas by 1-2, while came up winning the second opposite Trinidad & Tobago by 3-0. It again played two brilliant games in the first round opposite Guatemala and final opposite Bolivia in pool B. These two respective games were won by Chile with 2-1 and 2-0 score respectively.
