Introduction

The Federation Cup is an ace tournament at the world levels played amongst women tennis teams. It was founded by International Tennis Federation, in 1963. The legendary Hazel Wightman exists at the root of the idea as its event, who thought of independent women tennis competitions. She didn’t lose her heart when her idea was not shared by anyone during the second decade of 20th century. However, in Nell Hopman and Mary Hare, the two greatly inspired ladies took up the issue and made dedicated efforts to bring it in reality. The International Tennis Federation (ITF), appreciated the great research work done by Hare, which noted positive responses from all corners.

 

The Federation Cup had a small number of 16 teams during first year which rose to 73 teams by the year 1976. The name Federation Cup was modified to Fed Cup in 1995. The Federation Cup courts have been graced by the legendary players like Lesley Turner, Darlene Hard, Margaret Smith and Billie Jean King, on its corridors, who toned the Grand Slams. Bosnia/Herzegovina having made it to Group I in 2002, got relegated to Group II, which lost all its three ties. Bosnia/Herzegovina at the 2001 Federation Cup remain in Group II, Euro/African Zone, which was played under Yugoslavian banner until 1992.
