Introduction

The Federation Cup is one of the premier global women tennis tournaments. It was founded by International Tennis Federation, marking its 50th inaugural celebration in 1963. Hazel Wightman is the legendary personality, existed on the back of its idea as the sole event for the women tennis teams. Subsequently, two other inspired ladies in Nell Hopman and Mary Hare, made dedicated efforts to bring it in reality. The International Tennis Federation (ITF), took note of the great research work done by Hare, which noted positive responses from all corners. During commencing year there was participation of 16 nations, rising up 73 teams by the year 1976.

 

The name Federation Cup, was modified to Fed Cup in 1995. The Federation Cup has witnessed the legendary players like Lesley Turner, Darlene Hard, Margaret Smith and Billie Jean King, on its corridors, who toned the Grand Slams. Bolivia made its first appearance in the year 1991. It has competed in Group II, American Zone, except in 2005. Bolivia at the 2001 Federation Cup remain in Group II, American Zone.

Bolivia at the 2001 Federation Cup got registration in the Group II of American Zone. It started its present tournament on losing note. It lost its first pool robin round opposite Puerto Rico by 0-3. Bolivia rose up to beat Jamaica in the round robin by 2-1 and also defeated the first round opponents Bermuda by 3-0. In the last events of group finals, it went down by Chile with 0-2 score, which saw its debacle in the game.
