Armenia at the 2001 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is premier tennis event of women teams played yearly at international levels. Launched by International Tennis Federation, the Federation Cup owes its framing to Hazel Wightman. Hazel thought of the initial plan in the year 1919, who then floated a trophy for the winners of contesting teams United States and Great Britain teams. Subsequently Nell Hopman and Mary Hardwick Hare having impressed by Hazel’s plan, made all out efforts to bring it in reality. Mary Hare convinced International Tennis Federation (ITF), with her research on the subject, which then took note of the great research work done by Hare.

Armenia has been competing in the Euro/African Zone Group II, since beginning. Armenia at the 2001 Federation Cup registered its team through Euro/African Zone Group II. In its share of pool matches, Armenia got a first winning breakthrough against Kenya by 3-0. Armenia then seemed to take the team up in the ladder. However, it lost next two matches in the row opposite Egypt and Bosnia/Herzegovina. In the last pool robin round Armenia came up with flying colors, with the win over Lesotho by 3-0.

Armenia at the 2001 Federation Cup listed its team through Euro/African Zone Group II. Armenia has a progressive chart of events this year. It started its pool round robin events with win opposite Kenya by 3-0, which was in full swing of merits. In the following its performance came down opposite Egypt, which offered little resistance to them, which granted them a win by 1-2. In the next round opposite Bosnia/Herzegovina, Armenia lost its total game spirit and suffered debacle at the hands of Bosnia by 0-3. Surprisingly, once again they rose up from the defeat and came winning opposite Lesotho in the last robin round.
