Turkey at the 2000 Federation Cup

In the year 1991 Turkey made its debut in the Fed Cup and had played a total of 17 years’ game so far. It has competed in 63 ties to date. Ismet-Duygu Aksit –Oal has made the most number of total wins (32-29). She has the record of making the Most Singles Wins and Most Double Wins and has been part of the best doubles team. She has played the most number of ties and has played for the most number of years. The best performance of Turkey to date is reaching the final qualifying round of the 1993 Fed Cup. Turkey at the 2000 Federation Cup entered from the Europe/Africa Group 1 pool A round robin because of its good performance in the 1999 Fed Cup. In 2000 Fed Cup it had to play a total of three ties in Europe/Africa Group 1 pool A round robin. In the first tie held on 16 May in Spain’s clay court Turkey faced Netherlands and lost at its hand with the score 0-3. The second tie for Turkey was on the next day againstBulgaria. This too was a disastrous performance. It lost to Bulgaria with the score line 0-3. The third tie of Europe/Africa Group 1 pool A round robin for Turkey was enlisted against Sweden. This tie yielded just one winning match for Turkey while Sweden won 2.

The performance of Turkey at the 2000 Federation Cup was dismal and humiliating. Out of the three ties in Europe/Africa Group 1 A, it did not even make a single win. It earned just one winning game out of the losing tie against Sweden. This poor performance pulled Turkey down in the Fed Cup ranking. It would play in the Zone’s Group 2 in the 2001 Fed Cup.
