Introduction

Thailand made its debut in the Fed Cup in 1976, playing for 25 years it has competed in 85 ties in all, through 2006. Tamarine Tanasugarn has played most number of years and most number of ties and has made most total wins and most number of singles wins. Benjamas Sangaram made the most number of doubles wins and she is part of the best doubles team. It played in the World Group 2 in 2005 and 2006 which was its best performance so far. It lost its opening tie on both occasions. Thailand at the 2000 Federation Cup played in the Asia/Oceania Group 1 pool A.

Thailand at the 2000 Federation Cup played four round robin ties in Asia/Oceania Group 1 pool A and won three of them. In the first tie which was played on hard outdoor court in Japan on 25th April it was defeated by India 1-2. The second tie was against Kazakhstan. Thailand defeated it with the score line 2-0 on 26th April. On 28th Thailand faced Hong Kong China and defeated in this third tie round robin with the score 2-1. The last tie of the year for Thailand in the Fed Cup was against Japan. It won the tie 2-1.

The performance of Thailand at the 2000 Federation Cup was good enough to maintain its place in the Fed Cup ranking for the following year as that of the 2000 position- Asia/Oceania Group 1. Though it lost the first round robin against India the next three opponents Kazakhstan, Hong Kong China and Japan fell pretty easily at the hands of Thailand.
