Paraguay at the 2000 Federation Cup

The 2000 Fed Cup was the 38th edition of the most popular sporting events in the women’s tennis. From this year the world group was changed into three pool groups as Pool A, Pool B and Pool C instead of two groups as in the previous competitions. There were a record number of participants this year comprising around 100 teams and Paraguay at the 2000 Fed Cup. was one of them. Paraguay started its Fed Cup campaign in the year 1991 and its best ever performance has come in the year 1995 when they won the zonal finals and qualified to the world group play-off.

Paraguay at the 2000 Fed Cup was in the America zone group I along with the teams like Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Paraguay started up well in the first round robin match, although they were having a tough time in that match against Cuba Paraguay over came all the difficulties to defeat Cuba by the score of 2:1.

After wards in the remaining matches Paraguay had a night mare as they were not able to win a single game. They were trounced by Argentina, Mexico and Colombia in the next three round robin matches. Paraguay was defeated in all those matches with the same score of 3:0. As a result Paraguay would stay in the same group I for the 2001 Fed Cup.

The over all performance of Paraguay at the 2000 Fed Cup was not good as they were defeated very easily in the round robin matches. Although Portugal was emerged winners in the first round robin match they were given a tough tussle by the Cubans. If Cuba had won that match it would be a terrible performance for Paraguay but it did not happen.
