Introduction

The Fed Cup has set high standards for the women’s tennis. The first tournament was held between United States and Great Britain in 1963. The participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2000 championship was the 38th edition of the Fed Cup. Panama started its international tennis career in 1997. A total of 95 nations participated in the tournament. Panama at the 2000 Fed Cup was one of the average teams.

Performance of Panama at the 2000 Federation Cup

Panama at the 2000 Fed Cup was placed in the Group II of the American zone. In the first round robin match against Antigua and Barbuda, Panama won by 2-1. The next match however featured Panama loosing to Ecuador by 0-3. The third round robin contest also yielded Panama as the looser to Bahamas by 0-3. Panama was again defeated by Bermuda by 1-2. Also, Panama won against Barbados by 2-1. Thus, Panama was ousted from the 2000 Fed Cup owing to irregular victories.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Panama at the 2000 Federation Cup

Panama at the 2000 Fed Cup was placed in the Group II of the American zone with some of the other countries like Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago. The performance of Panama was a mixture of ups and downs. Panama won only two matches against Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados. The remaining three matches were lost to Ecuador, Bahamas and Bermuda. Thus inconsistent performance along with lack of practice and effective game-plan led to the ousting of Panama from the 2000 Fed Cup.
