Netherlands at the 2000 Federation Cup

The Fed Cup has been the most coveted title in women’s tennis. It began in 1963 as a tournament between the United States and Great Britain to commemorate the anniversary of the I.T.F. The participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2000 championship was the 38th edition of the Fed Cup. Netherlands started its international tennis career in 1963. A total of 95 nations participated in the tournament. Netherlands at the 2000 Fed Cup was one of the hard-worked yet unlucky teams.

Netherlands at the 2000 Fed Cup was placed in the Group I of the Europe/Africa. In the first round robin match against Turkey, Netherlands performed bravely with edifice and won by a score of 3-0. The next match also featured Netherlands winning over Sweden by 3-0.

The third round robin contest also yielded Netherlands as the winner against Bulgaria by 3-0. Netherlands was again victorious against Israel by 2-1 in the first round qualifiers. Netherlands lost the final qualifier against Hungary by score of 0-2.

Thus Netherlands was ousted from the 2000 Fed Cup.

Netherlands at the 2000 Fed Cup was placed in the Group I of the Europe/Africa zone with some of the other countries like Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, Latvia, Poland, Luxembourg, South Africa, Turkey and Ukraine. The performance of Netherlands was exceptionally well except for the loss to Hungary in the final qualifier stage. Netherlands won all its matches against Turkey, Sweden, Bulgaria and Israel. However, loosing the crucial clash to Hungary did not pay well. Thus Netherlands was ousted from the 2000 tournament.
