Morocco at the 2000 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is managed by the International Tennis Federation. It began in 1963 as a tournament between United States and Great Britain. The participating countries played in the qualifying stage against themselves, resulting from which the entrants to the World group stage were decided. The 2000 championship was the 38th edition of the Federation Cup. Morocco started its international tennis career in 1966. A total of 95 nations participated in the tournament. Morocco at the 2000 Federation Cup was one of the inexperienced teams in the international circuit.

Morocco at the 2000 Federation Cup was placed in the Group I of the Europe/Africa. In the first round robin match against Belarus, Morocco performed poorly and lost by a score of 0-3. The next match also featured Morocco loosing to Poland by 0-3. The third round robin contest also yielded Morocco as the dismal looser to Romania by 0-3 scoreline. Morocco displayed its gloomy performance and again lost to Slovenia by 0-2. Thus all defeats in the qualifying round led to the ousting of Morocco from the championship.

Morocco at the 2000 Federation Cup was placed in the Group I of the Europe/Africa zone with some of the other countries like Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, Latvia, Poland, Luxembourg, South Africa, Turkey and Ukraine. The performance of Morocco was extremely lackluster and lopsided with the imperfection of inexperience. Morocco lost all its round robin matches against Belarus, Poland, Romania and Slovenia. The margin of defeat was far from earning any sympathy for the Moroccan team. Thus such a bad display of talent led to the kick-out of Morocco from the 2000 Federation Cup.
