Mauritius at the 2000 Federation Cup

Mauritius at the 2000 Federation Cup took part in the Federation Cup for the first time in 2000. So, this was the debut year of the country in this tournament.

Mauritius at the 2000 Federation Cup took part in Group II of the Europe / Africa Zone. The other countries in this group were Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Georgia, Iceland, Ireland, Kenya, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Portugal, Tunisia and Yugoslavia.

Mauritius played four Round Robin matches. For all the matches, the host was Portugal and the surface was Clay – Outdoor. On 28 March 2000, the match was against Macedonia. Mauritius was defeated by Macedonia by a score of 0-3. On 30 March 2000, the match was against Ireland. Mauritius was defeated by Ireland by a score of 0-3. On 31 March 2000, the match was against Malta. Mauritius was defeated by Malta by a score of 0-3. On 1 April 2000, the match was against Kenya. Mauritius defeated Kenya by a score of 1-0.

Mauritius at the 2000 Federation Cup displayed a very shoddy and dismal performance. Out of the four Round Robin matches it played, it lost three matches and were able to win only one match. Also, in the matches that were lost, all the matches were clean sweeps of all the three matches. Thus, overall the situation was very grim and disappointing. But, taking into consideration that this was the first time the country was contesting the Federation cup, the matches had to be considered as an experience for the future.
