Lithuania at the 2000 Federation Cup

Lithuania at the 2000 Fed Cup took part in the Fed Cup for the first time in 1992. Before this year, the players from Lithuania played for the Soviet Union. In the 1999 edition, the country played four Round Robin matches and won two of them.

Lithuania at the 2000 Fed Cup took part in Group II of the Europe / Africa Zone. The other countries in this group were Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia

and Herzegovina, Botswana, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Georgia, Iceland, Ireland, Kenya, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Malta, Mauritius, Moldova, Portugal, Tunisia and Yugoslavia. Lithuania played five Round Robin matches.

For all the matches, the host was Portugal and the surface was Clay – outdoor. On 28 March 2000, the match was against Armenia. Lithuania defeated Armenia by a score of 2-1. On 29 March 2000, the match was against Egypt. Lithuania defeated Egypt by a score of 3-0. On 30 March 2000, the match was against Cyprus. Lithuania defeated Cyprus by a score of 3-0. On 31 March 2000, the match was against Yugoslavia. Lithuania was defeated by Yugoslavia by a score of 0-3. On 1 April 2000, the match was against Georgia. Lithuania was defeated by Georgia by a score of 0-1.

Lithuania at the 2000 Fed Cup displayed a good performance. Out of the five Round Robin matches, it won the first three matches. Out of these three matches, two matches were clean sweeps of all the three matches. The last two matches were however lost by the team. Taking into consideration that the country was playing in this cup for about 8 years, a better performance was expected from them.
