Kenya at the 2000 Federation Cup

Kenya at the 2000 Fed Cup was a team who played for the cup in the Group II of the Europe/Africa Zone. The Kenyan team started playing in the year 1991 and 1995 was the only year that they defeated Cyprus in a tie. The performance of Kenya till 2000 has not been good as it started as a World group team but slowly and steadily got degraded to Group II. The Kenya Lawn Tennis Association is the legal body that stands to be the care-taker of the Fed Cup matter for Kenyan team.

Kenya at the 2000 Fed Cup faced Ireland in the very first Round Robin game. Even after being a group II team, Kenya didn’t play seriously and lost with a discouraging score of 0-3. Their poor performance prevailed as they lost to the amateur team of Malta with a score-line of 0-3. The story was not very different even while fighting against Macedonia; F.Y.R. Kenya lost even this Round Robin game with a score of 0-3. The last and final Round Robin was played between Mauritius and Kenya and yet another time, Kenya lost with a score of 0-1. This was the end of the year’s play for Kenya at the Fed Cup.

The performance of Kenya at the 2000 Fed Cup was a complete flap. Poor preparation and lack of commitment was exactly what was visible from their performances. They blindly lost to all the teams and could not manage to overpower the opponent team even in a single match. It was high time that Kenya should have gained seriousness and should have started fending for the cup in the true sense.
