Kazakhstan is relatively a new entrant to the Fed Cup and made its debut as late as in 1995. Kazakhstan played from the Asia/Oceania Group. Therefore as expected Kazakhstan could not make any significant achievement in any of its appearances. The nation was always an underdog in the tournament, which mainly due to the inexperience and lack of technical excellence among the players. Kazakhstan’s maximum achievement was that it finished fifth in the Group I of the Asia/Oceania Group. In the year 1999, Kazakhstan was a part of Group 2 A and after a worthwhile performance the nation returned to the Group I A of the zone. Kazakhstan at the 2000 Fed Cup was one of the under-performing nations among the participants of the Asia/Oceania zone.

Kazakhstan at the 2000 Fed Cup was pitted against Hong Kong, China in its first round robin encounter. In a closely fought tie, Kazakhstan defeated Hong Kong by a score line of 2-1, which impressed the fans as well as the experts.
