Italy at the 2000 Federation Cup

Italy has been one of the most decorated teams in the Fed Cup league. The Italian team has been one of those prestigious four teams who have participated in Fed Cup every consecutive year. After the Fed Cup adopted a home-and-away approach in the year 1995, Italy was the very premier team to win the Fed Cup. Italy at the 2000 Fed Cup was a Pool A team of the World Group. The Federazione Italiana Tennis is the official committee that acts as the care taker of the Fed Cup matters for the Italian team.

Italy at the 2000 Fed Cup played its first Group ‘A’ Round Robin in the World Group against Spain. This performance in this round was gloomy as they all the three straight games and the match ended up in a score of 0-3. The next Round Robin was contested between Croatia and Italy. It was in this round that Italy did manage a remarkable feat with a score of 3-0. At the next level the tiff was between Germany and Italy could just overpower Germany in one match and hence lost with a score-line of 1-2.

Italy at the 2000 Fed Cup failed to keep up their position in World Group ‘A’ pool. Even after being such a veteran team, they lost to teams like Spain and Germany. Their singular win against Croatia could not do much and they were relegated to play in the World group play-off matches in the year 2001. Italy could not work out their magic and hence exhibited subsidiary skills and lost in the true sense.
