Indonesia at the 2000 Federation Cup

The country of Indonesia made its debut in the Fed Cup in the year 1969 from the World Group. However, the nation did not manage to make any significant inroads in the tournament and has overall been an ordinary performing team among all the participants. Indonesia never managed to go beyond the first round, which was disappointing for the Indonesian fans. Indonesia’s best performance came in the year 1991 when the team reached the quarterfinals of the World Group. In the quarterfinals, Indonesia lost against the might of Spain and made an exit from the tournament. However, since then Indonesia has displayed a below par performance in the Fed Cup. Indonesia kept switching between the World Group and Asia/Oceania Group.

Indonesia at the 2000 Fed Cup played against strong contenders like New Zealand, Korea, China, Chinese Taipei and Singapore.

In the first round robin match Indonesia defeated New Zealand by a score line of 3-0 while in the second round robin of the Group I B Indonesia defeated Korea by a score line of 2-0.

The nation was not successful against China and lost in the third round robin by 0-2. Indonesia defeated Chinese Taipei in yet another round robin by a score line of 2-1 while it whitewashed Singapore 3-0.

Indonesia at the 2000 Fed Cup displayed a much improved performance as compared to performances in the previous few years. It managed to win four out of five round robin matches. This propelled Indonesia to the higher group for the 2001 Fed Cup. Since 1997, Indonesia had experienced a huge slump in its performance and was no longer a part of the World Group. Since then it was struggling to remain in the Group1 A of Asia/Oceania Group. Indonesia’s performance in the 1999 Fed Cup was not very impressive, which led to its relegation to the Group1 B of the Asia/Oceania Group. However, once again the team displayed an improved performance to climb to the Group1 A for the next Fed Cup.
