India at the 2000 Federation Cup

The Fed Cup’s administration and training procedures in India is looked after by the committee that’s called the All India Tennis Association. India started playing in the Fed Cup matches in the year 1977 and since then has been consistently playing and making a name for itself in the international tennis scenario. Even after commencing the journey as a World Group team member, India drifted down and since 1992 has been floating as a Group I or Group II team of the Asia/Oceania Zone. India at the 2000 Fed Cup played with a lot of gusto but could not do anything remarkable as such.

India at the 2000 Fed Cup played its first Round Robin match as a team of Asia/Oceania group I team and competed with Thailand. Even after consistent efforts of Thailand, India snatched the triumph off with a score of 2-1.

Although, the next Round Robin that India played against Japan was a disheartening moment as India lost with a shameful score of 0-2. Without losing hope, India progressed and proved victorious while playing against Kazakhstan with a score of 3-0.

The victory path didn’t terminate as they vanquished the Hong Kong, China team also in the full and final Round Robin game with a clear swipe-off score of 3-0.

India at the 2000 Fed Cup did play in an outstanding manner as they won the three of the four Round Robins that were played. It proved that India had put in dedicated efforts and that they were determined to carve out a niche for themselves. Though India could manage just to defend its Group I position, the overall performance was undoubtedly commendable.
