Sports Of World Provides Federation Cup Tennis Information                         Sports Of World Provides Federation Tennis Information
Introduction

Iceland competed first time in the 1996 Fed Cup. Its very first challenger was Malta in the first round of the Group II D of the Europe/Africa Zone on the hard-outdoor surface hosted by Israel. It lost the round by a score line of 0-3 and Iceland was badly defeated by Ireland, Ukraine, and Denmark in the next rounds by a score line of 0-3. Till the 2000 Fed Cup, it won only one match against Cameroon in the doubles of the 1997 Fed Cup. Iceland failed to show its effort in all the rounds it played until the year 2000. Iceland at the 2000 Fed Cup was playing its 5th tournament with a hope to win at least one round of the tournament.

Performance of Iceland at the 2000 Federation Cup

Iceland at the 2000 Fed Cup was a weak contender from the Group II B of the Europe/Africa Zone. Iceland lost first four round robins by a very low score line of 0-3 against Bosnia/Herzegovina, Liechtenstein, Denmark, and Tunisia.

In the fifth round robin, its opponent team was Botswana. Here also it was not able to win the round and lost against Botswana by a score line of 0-1.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Iceland at the 2000 Federation Cup

Performance of Iceland at the 2000 Fed Cup was very bad as expected. It showed same weak recital as in the previous tournaments. It was not able to get a single match victory in any round. Iceland because of its least efficiency got a great criticism and disappointed its fans. The players were not able to come out from the labyrinth made by the opponent teams. As a result, this time also they wiped out all the hopes.
