Hong Kong at the 2000 Federation Cup

Hong Kong, China started its first competition in the 1981 Fed Cup. The team is headed and managed by Hong Kong Tennis association. With its best performance, it succeeded to reach the World Group of 16 teams in the 1982 and 1990 tournaments. It was a participant from the World Group in its first tournament. In the first round on the clay-outdoor surface hosted by Japan, it faced Netherlands. But it was defeated by Netherlands with a score line of 1-2. Relegated to the World Group Consolation Round, it was miserably defeated by Yugoslavia with a score line of 0-3. Hong Kong, China at the 2000 Fed Cup was one of the 100 teams that took active part and this was its 20th tournament.

Hong Kong, China at the 2000 Fed Cup was an aspirant from the Group I A of the Asia/Oceania Zone. It was defeated by Kazakhstan with a score line of 1-2 in the first round robin. It lost all the three matches of the second round robin and was easily defeated by Japan. In the third round robin, it won only one match and other matches were won by Thailand. In the fourth round robin, it was not able to get a single match victory and lost against India with a score line of 0-3. These all defeats led it to move demote to the Group II A in 2001.

Recital of Hong Kong, China at the 2000 Fed Cup was not good. Out of 12 matches, it won only two matches in four rounds. With its bad performance it had to degrade to the Group II A for the next tournament.
