Introduction

Guatemala started its keen involvement as an aspirant from the 1992 Fed Cup. It was in the Group I B of the American Zone. It lost all the round robins hosted by Mexico on the clay-outdoor surface by a very low a score line of 0-3 against Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and Brazil. In the 1995, Guatemala was downgraded from the Group I to the Group II. It could not manage to reach the World Group till the 2000 Fed Cup. Its score lines till 2000 depicted that it was poor performing team. Guatemala at the 2000 Fed Cup was one of the 100 participants and this tournament was its 9th Fed Cup.

Guatemala at the 2000 Fed Cup was a competitor from the Group II C of the America Zone. In the first round robin, it won two matches and defeated Jamaica. It lost the second round robin by a score line of 0-3 against Puerto Rico.

It got fantastic triumph by winning all the three matches against Bermuda in the third round robin. But shockingly, it lost the first round of the 5th to 8th Play-off and final of the 7th to 8th Play-off against Bahamas and Trinidad & Tobago with a very low score line of 0-3.

With this defeat it had to move down to the Group II C for the 2001 Fed Cup.

Guatemala at the 2000 Fed Cup presented moderate performance. It won two rounds, out of five and in five rounds out of 15 matches, it managed to win five. Against Bermuda, it played magnificently by dominating the entire round. It faced slightly tough competition against Jamaica. But it was miserably defeated by Bahamas and Trinidad & Tobago.
