Performance of Egypt at the 2000 Federation Cup
Egypt at the 2000 Federation Cup did nothing notable and stuck to its place even for the year 2001. The first Round Robin as a Group II team was played against Cyprus and fortunately Egypt managed to win with a score of 3-0. The next consecutive Round Robin games were played opposite Lithuania and Georgia. Egypt lost both the games in a very atrocious manner as the score line for both the games was 0-3. Anyhow, the Round Robin game against Armenia was a success as Egypt managed a close escape and won with a score of 2-1. It was lucky enough for the Egyptian team to fetch a walk-over from the Yugoslavian team in the last Round Robin.
Here’s a summary of the performance of Egypt at the 2000 Federation Cup
Egypt at the 2000 Federation Cup was beaten hollow by some of the newcomer teams. Even after two wins and a walk-over their cumulative aggregate was low and they could not promote themselves to the next Group for the 2001 Fed Cup. Egypt lost badly to Georgia and Lithuania and hence their retaining their original position was totally justified. It was a poor display of skills and it definitely showed Egypt’s lacking commitment for the game.
