Czech Republic at the 2000 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is known to be one of the most successful competitions in the women’s tennis. This tournament originated in 1963 when the ITF agreed to hold a women’s competition on the request from Mary Hare of United States. Unlike Davis Cup Federation Cup is also governed by the ITF. The 2000 Federation Cup was the 38th edition of the most important competition in the women’s tennis. There were about 100 teams taking part in this competition and Czech Republic at the 2000 Federation Cup was one of them. Czech Republic participated in this competition on the day this tournament was introduced that is 1963.

Till date their best performance has come in the year 1975 when they won the title for the first time, they defeated Australia by 3:0. It played as Czechoslovakia till 1992 there after as Czech and Slovak republic in 1993 and since 1994 it is Czech Republic.

Czech Republic at the 2000 Federation Cup was in the world group Pool B along with the teams like Austria, Slovakia and Switzerland. Czech played really well in the first match against Austria, although Austria were trying its best but Czech did not let the pressure build on them selves as they came with a good result in the end. Czech defeated Austria in that match by the score of 2:1. Similar were the results against Switzerland and the Slovak Republic, Czech defeated them both to get a birth in the world group. In the world group they had to play Spain, here came the set back for the Czechs as they lost the match to Spain by the score of 2:1. Therefore their efforts of qualifying for the finals were ended in the match against Spain.

The overall performance of Czech Republic at the 2000 Federation Cup was adequate. Czech tried its best in the match against Spain but could not get a result in their favor and therefore they remain in the world group Pool A for the 2001 Fed Cup.
