Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup

Sports Of World Provides Federation Cup Tennis Information                         Sports Of World Provides Federation Tennis Information
Introduction

The Federation Cup was started in the year 1963 prior to the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation. During that period there was no prize money for the competition and thus the teams had to contribute for their own expenses. The 2000 Federation Cup was the 38th edition of the most popular sporting events in the history of the women’s tennis. In this tournament there were a record number of entries around 100 participants and Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup was one of them. Croatia first played in this competition in the year 1992 and this is their 9th appearance in this competition.

Performance of Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup

Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup was in the world group Pool A along with the teams like Germany, Italy and Spain. Croatia had a very poor start in this competition as they lost all their matches in that group. All the matches were played at one venue, at the Pal sport Bassano grounds in Italy. Croatia lost to Spain and Germany by the score of 2:1 and against Italy by the score of 3:0. Therefore Croatia was placed in the world group play-off rounds in the 2001 Fed Cup.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup

The overall performance of Croatia at the 2000 Federation Cup was terrible as they were not able to register at least a single victory in the competition. Against Germany and Spain they did try hard but did not succeed where as against Italy they were out played in the match. This must have been Croatia’s one of the worst performance in the Fed Cup. As a result of a sober display Croatia was demoted to the world group play-off rounds for the next year’s tournament.
