Chinese Taipei made its debut in the premier women’s tennis, the Fed Cup, in 1972. It has played for a total 32 years since then and has competed in a total number of 112 ties. It reached the World Group in 1981 and the World Group Play off in the year 1999. These were the best performance it has put up so far. It lost the tie at the hands of Indonesia 1-2. The last round was against China P.R. which defeated Chinese Taipei with the score 0-3.

The performance of Chinese Taipei at the 2000 Federation Cup was quite good as it won three ties out of the five it played. This performance was sufficient for it to play from the same Asia/Oceania Group 1 pool A in the 2001 Fed Cup.
