Introduction

The most important tournament in women's tennis between national teams was the Federation Cup. The 33rd edition of this cup was the 1995 Federation Cup. The tournament's structure underwent alterations in this year. There was a multi-tiered league system. At the zonal level, to the existing Group I, another Group II was added. The World Group now comprised of 8 teams. World Group II was created with other 8 teams. Earlier all matches were played at one place. Now they were played at home sites. Altogether, 87 countries took part in the tournament.

 
Performance of 1995 Federation Cup

In the 1995 Federation Cup, from the Group I of the American Zone, Paraguay advanced to World Group II Play-off, while Cuba and Peru were relegated to Group II. From Group II, Puerto Rico and Uruguay were promoted to Group I. In the Asia / Oceania Zone, from the Group I, South Korea advanced to World Group II Play-off, while Chinese Taipei and New Zealand were relegated to Group II. From Group II, India and Malaysia were promoted to Group I. In the Europe / Africa Zone, from the Group I, Belgium and Czech Republic advanced to World Group II Play-off, while Finland, Ukraine, Israel and Zimbabwe were relegated to Group II. From Group II, Greece, Portugal, Norway and Yugoslavia were promoted to Group I. In the World Group II, Argentina defeated Indonesia by a score of 3-2. Australia defeated Slovakia by a score of 3-2. Canada defeated Italy by a score of 3-2. Netherlands defeated Sweden by a score of 5-0.

In the first round of the World Group I, Spain defeated Bulgaria by a score of 3-2. Germany defeated Japan by a score of 4-1. France defeated South Africa by a score of 3-2. The United States defeated Austria by a score of 5-0. In the semi finals, Germany defeated Spain by a score of 3-2 and the United States defeated France by a score of 3-2. In the final, Spain defeated the United States by a score of 3-2. This was the third time that Spain had won the Federation Cup.
