Introduction

Federation Cup is the most recognized competition in the women's tennis. This tournament originated in the year 1963 as the International Tennis Federation celebrated its 50th anniversary. In the inaugural year there were around 16 teams which came from different venues to participate in this competition. Teams had to gather their own expenses as there was no prize money for this competition but still the teams were eager to take part in this Federation Cup. The 1994 Federation Cup was the 32nd edition of the most famous competition in the women's tennis.

 

There where about 73 teams participating in this competition and Venezuela at the 1994 Federation Cup was one of them. Venezuela started playing in this competition since 1984 and their best performance has also been in the same year when they reached the world group for the only time till date.

Performance of Venezuela at the 1994 Federation Cup

Venezuela at the 1994 Federation Cup was in the American zone group I along with the teams like Uruguay, Mexico, Peru, Cuba, Chile, Bahamas, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. In the first round robin match against Uruguay Venezuela did play well as they were trying hard but failed to get a win in this match. They were defeated by Uruguay by the score of 2:1. In the next match Venezuela had no problem what so ever to crush Puerto Rico in the second round robins match by the score of 3:0. Even in the match against Mexico Venezuela had little difficulty but could manage to defeat Mexico in that match by the score of 2:1. Venezuela played against Trinidad & Tobago in the first round of that group, this match was also easily won by Venezuela as they had no problem at all to defeat their opponents by 3:0. Hence forth they reached the quarterfinals and in that match they had to face Chile. This match was great to watch as both the teams were trying hard enough to get a win but the best team won and therefore Venezuela was defeated by 2:1 in that match.
