Russia at the 1994 Federation Cup

Russia has proved its mettle in Federation Cup emerging winner on two occasions. Russia made its debut in Federation Cup in 1968. In the year 1988, Russia finished as runner up. From 1968 to 1991 Russia Federation Cup team participated in the tournament as USSR and as Commonwealth Ind. States in 1992. Russia at the 1994 Federation Cup participated in the tournament from Europe/African Zone Group 1 and was placed in Draw F.

Russia at the 1994 Federation Cup could not produce their best. They played against Luxembourg in the first round robin tie. As expected Russia swept off all the three matches and completed a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg at Freizeit Park, Bad Waltersdorf, Austria. Russia had to face mighty Great Britain in the next round robin tie. Both the teams were equally strong and spectators witnessed excellent performances. Great Britain put up brave fight and carved out a 2-1 victory over Russia. At the end of round robin contest, Russia had one victory to their name and it was sufficient for them to claim knock out round place. In the knock out round Russia once again failed to tilt the balance to their side. Austria breezed past Russia 2-1 and ousted them from the tournament.

Russia at the 1994 Federation Cup could not perform as per their caibre. Russia handsomely put down Luxembourg's challenge in the first round robin tie but succumbed to Great Britain in the second round robin tie. Russia fought tooth and nail against Austria to keep their hopes alive but failed completely.
