Puerto Rico at the 1994 Federation Cup

The 1994 Federation Cup was Puerto Rico's third appearance in the most eminent tennis tournament for women. Puerto Rico began participating in the tournament from 1992. Recording 3-0 victory over Guatemala in the opening tournament Puerto Rico made dashing start in the tournament but put up very dismal performance in the later editions of the tournament. Puerto Rico at the 1994 Federation Cup suffered a bitter experience.

Puerto Rico at the 1994 Federation Cup faced strong Mexico in the first round robin tie. M. Amadeo, E. Viqueira and B. Santos represented Puerto Rico in the tournament. M. Amadeo lost her first single by 6-1, 6-4 to G. Velez of Mexico. E. Viqueira too lost second singles match by 6-3, 7-5 to K. Palme and thus Puerto Rico lost the tie. Puerto Rico's due did record 6-4, 6-1 doubles victory but it was too late. The next round robin tie featured yet another dismal performance from Puerto Rico. Venezuela executed ruthless 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico in the second round robin tie at Cochabamba T.C., Bolivia. Registering 2-1 victory, Uruguay proved superior over Puerto Rico in the last round robin tie.

Puerto Rico at the 1994 Federation Cup was placed in American Zone along with Bahamas, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela. Puerto Rico's performance was very poor as they could not record a single win. As compare to their first two ties they played well in the last tie against Uruguay but failed to seal the victory.
