Introduction

The Federation Cup is one of the most significant global woman tennis event played yearly during week's period at different venues. It was launched by International Tennis Federation in the year 1963, coincidentally marking its fifty years of origination. It is the premier tournament proving the talent hunt on the international platform, having largest participation of women tennis playing countries. The initial year witnessed entries of 16 teams which significantly rose up to include 73 international teams by the year 1976. This popular & prestigious trophy launched by ITF carried the name Federation Cup, was renamed as the Federation Cup in 1995.

 

The Federation Cup remains a unique gala of sorts with equal representation from the smalltime aspirants to the great star players alike. Its listing includes the high profiles and calibers like Billie Jean King, Margaret Smith and Lesley Turner's stature on the court. They have emerged the glorified Grand Slam victors. The original plan was thought after by the tennis loving personality Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman. The other duel in Nell Hopman and Mary Hardwick took the Hazel's plan ahead with motivated efforts to turn it into realism. They did not show any game motivation and lacked their efforts to save the set to the least.
