Introduction

Hazel Wightman, the motivated tennis lover wins all acclaims for her primary idea for all-women tennis. Which took time of some decades to materialize it in the structure of Federation Cup. She never lost her heart to afloat a trophy on her own when her idea got no appropriate response. Later on, the Hazel plan was rigorously chased with high spirits by two other great ladies. These ladies were Nell Hopman and Mary Hardwick Hare, who brought the plan to its logical realism. The Federation Cup was launched by the International Tennis Federation to mark its fifty years of origination in 1963.

 

Initially there was a small gathering of just 16 teams which significantly rose up to take in its folds as many as 73 national teams by the year 1976. The initial trophy launched by ITF carried the name Federation Cup, which was renamed as the Federation Cup in 1995. The Federation Cup equally remains a unique event of its own which records the presence of all time tennis super talents Billie Jean King, Darlene Hard, Margaret Smith and Lesley Turner's stature on the court, who sparked in the Grand Slams. Ireland at the 1994 Federation Cup was a Euro/African Zone Group player. The Irish team appeared spirited, which showed high talent while recording its maiden win over Egypt in its First Round Robin. The score of 3-0 was highly encouraging for the Irish. However, their ecstasy of win soon ended when they lost outright both the next round matches opposite Belarus and Great Britain.
