The Federation Cup is world acclaimed tournament in women's tennis category. It rose to scene as means of providing recognition to the women's professional tennis. It began as championship between Great Britain and United States. The competing nations initially played in the qualifying rounds amongst themselves after which depending on their performance, were either knocked out of the tournament or promoted to the World group stage. The 1994 championship was the 32nd edition of the Federation Cup. Dominican Republic started its international tennis career in 1990.
