Introduction

The Federation Cup started from 1963 onwards initially as a tournament between United States and Great Britain. The competing nations initially played in the qualifying rounds after which depending on their performance, were either knocked out of the tournament or promoted to the World group stage. The 1994 championship was the 32nd edition of the Federation Cup. Chinese Taipei started its international tennis career in 1972 with a good performance. Out of the 73 participating teams, Chinese Taipei at the 1994 Federation Cup was one of the average teams.

Chinese Taipei at the 1994 Federation Cup was placed in the Asia/Oceania zone. Other teams in this group were India, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand. In the qualifiers, Chinese Taipei played its first round robin against India. Chinese Taipei won by a close margin of 2-1. Next match featured dynamic form by Chinese Taipei and ultimately led to victory against Syria by 3-0. The next match however resulted in Chinese Taipei loosing to Philippines by 1-2. The next clash was then again won by Chinese Taipei against Thailand by score of 3-0. The clash against New Zealand yielded Chinese Taipei as the proud winner by 2-1.This advanced Chinese Taipei into the World group stage. However, Chinese Taipei lost the first round clash to Indonesia by 1-2.
