Introduction

The Federation Cup started as an equivalent to the men's Davis Cup tournament. It started from 1963 so as to mark the anniversary of the International Tennis Federation. The competing nations initially played in the qualifying rounds after which depending on their performance, were either knocked out of the tournament or promoted to the World group stage. The 1994 championship was the 32nd edition of the Federation Cup. Chile started its international tennis career in 1968 with an average performance. Out of the 73 participating teams, Chile at the 1994 Federation Cup was one of the average teams.

Chile at the 1994 Federation Cup was placed in the American zone. Some teams in this group were Bahamas, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago. In the qualifiers, Chile played its first round robin against Trinidad and Tobago. Chile won dominatingly by 3-0. Next match featured contest of Chile and Bahamas which Chile again won proudly by 3-0. The next round robin match resulted in Chilean victory against Ecuador by score of 2-1. The next clash was then again won by Chile against Peru by score of 3-0. The Quarterfinals the qualifying round yielded Chile as the proud winner over Venezuela by 2-1.This advanced Chile into the World group stage. However, Chile lost the first round clash to Spain by 0-3. Eventually, Chile was ousted from the championship.
