Bulgaria at the 1994 Federation Cup

The Federation Cup is the most notorious sporting event in the women's tennis. In the year 1963 this tournament was flagged off and United States became the first winners of this tournament. As compared to Davis Cup, Federation Cup is also governed by the International Tennis Federation. The 1994 Federation Cup was the 32nd edition of the most important event in the women's tennis. There were about 73 teams taking part in this competition and Bulgaria at the 1994 Federation Cup was one of them. Bulgaria made their first appearance in this tournament in the year 1966 and this is their 16th appearances in this competition. Their best performance has come on two occasions in 1985 and 1987 when they reached the semifinals of the world group but they failed to get a win.

Bulgaria at the 1994 Federation Cup was in the world group along with the teams like Spain, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Argentina, Austria, United States and Italy. In the first round of the world group Bulgaria had to play against Croatia, Bulgaria had a tough tussle in that match but over came all the clutches to defeat Croatia by the score of 2:1. Then in the second round Bulgaria played against Indonesia, in this match Bulgaria had no problem at all as they crushed Indonesia by the score of 3:0. Their Quarterfinal match was against France, in this match both the teams were having a tough time but France did play better than Bulgaria as to win the match by the score of 2:1. Therefore Bulgaria remained in the world group for the 1995 Federation Cup.

The over all performance of Bulgaria at the 1994 Federation Cup was pleasing but if they had tried more they could have made to the finals.
