Introduction

The Federation Cup was started so as to provide much needed recognition for the women tennis professionals. It started in 1963 as a women's competition between United States and Great Britain. The competing nations initially played in the qualifying rounds after which depending on their performance, were either knocked out of the tournament or promoted to the World group stage. The 1994 tournament was the 32nd edition of the Federation Cup. This was the first time when Belarus participated at such an international arena.
