Introduction

The Federation Cup is one of the much-coveted championships in women's tennis. It served as the equivalent for the men's Davis Cup. It started in 1963 between United States and Great Britain. The numerous participating countries after playing amongst themselves in the qualifying rounds then proceeded to the World group stage. The 1994 Federation Cup was the 32nd edition of this world renowned championship in women's tennis. Austria started its international women's tennis career in 1963. Out of the 73 participating teams, Austria at the 1994 Federation Cup was one of the good teams.

Austria at the 1994 Federation Cup was placed in the Europe/Africa zone. Austria defeated Malta in first round robin match by 3-0. Austria also managed to be victorious against Portugal by 3-0. The qualifier against Ukraine also was won by Austria by 3-0. This performance led Austria to the World group stage. In the first round of World group, Austria defeated Poland by 2-1 to advance to the second round. In this round, Austria defeated Australia by 2-1 to meet United States in the Quarterfinals. However, Austria lost to U.S.A. by 0-3 and was thus ousted from the championship.
