Group I and Group II played knockout tournaments. Group III and IV played round-robin matches with promotion and relegation. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Paraguay at the 2006 Davis Cup was placed in Group II of Americas Zone. Paraguay’s team included following players:

Participation and Performance of Paraguay in the 2006 Davis Cup
Paraguay at the 2006 Davis Cup played the first set of matches against Bolivia in the 1st round. The matches were played at Club de Tenis de Santa Cruz, Bolivia from 10th to 12th February. Paraguay’s Emilio Baez-Britez defeated Bolivia’s Mauricio Estivariz by 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1. Paraguay’s Ramon Delgado defeated Bolivia’s Jose-Roberto Velasco by 6-0, 6-2 and 6-4. Paraguay’s pair, Emilio Baez-Britez and Ramon Delgado defeated Bolivia’s Jose Antelo and Mauricio Estivariz by 6-2, 7-5 and 6-2. Paraguay’s Lorenzo Gonzalez defeated Bolivia’s Carlos Alvarez by 1-6, 7-6 and 6-2. Bolivia’s Jose-Roberto Velasco defeated Paraguay’s Juan-Carlos Ramirez by 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1. Paraguay won 4 matches, while Bolivia won just single match. Hence Paraguay advanced to the 2nd round.
Paraguay played the matches against Colombia in the 2nd round. The matches were played at America Tennis Club, Bogota, Colombia from 7th to 9th April. Ramon Delgado defeated Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo by 2-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 and 10-8. Colombia’s Alejandro Falla defeated Emilio Baez-Britez by 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 and 6-3. Colombia’s Alejandro Falla defeated Francisco Rodriguez by 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3. Pablo Gonzalez defeated Emilio Baez-Britez by 6-2, 6-1. Paraguay had to face disappointment. They could win just single match. Hence they didn’t forward to the 3rd round.
