Japan at the 2006 Davis Cup.

Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation. The first round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Japan at the 2006 Davis Cup competed in Asia/Oceania Zone. It was included in the group I. Following players from Japan competed in the tournament:

• Toshihide Matsui
• Satoshi Iwabuchi
• Go Soeda

Japan was included in Group I of Asia/Oceania Zone. Other countries in this group were China, Chinese Taipei, India, South Korea, Pakistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. Japan’s players took hard efforts and showed good performance.

The 1st round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. Japan at the 2006 Davis Cup played directly in the first round. Japan played the first set of matches against China at Osaka, Japan. Japan’s players showed wonderful performance and won all five matches against China. Japan’s Gouichi Motomura defeated China’s Yu Wang by 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 and 6-3. Go Soeda from Japan defeated Peng Sun from China by 6-3, 6-3 and 7-6. Japan’s pair, Satoshi Iwabuchi and Toshihide Matsui defeated Chinese pair, Xin-Yuan Yu and Shao-Xuan Zeng by 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3. Go Soeda defeated Yu Wang by 6-1, 6-1. Japan’s Toshihide Matsui defeated China’s Peng Sun by 6-0, 4-6 and 6-3. Japan forwarded to the 2nd round. The matches in the 2nd round were played from 7th to 9th April. Japan played the matches against Thailand at Bangkok, Thailand. Paradorn Srichaphan from Thailand defeated Japan’s Gouichi Motomura by 6-4, 7-6 and 6-1. Thailand’s Danai Udomchoke defeated Japan’s Go Soeda by 7-5, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4 and 6-3. Thailand’s pair, Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana defeated Japanese pair, Satoshi Iwabuchi and Toshihide Matsui by 6-4, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-2. Japan’s Toshihide Matsui defeated Thailand’s Sanchai Ratiwatana by 6-3, 6-4. Gouichi Motomura defeated Sonchat Ratiwatana by 6-1, 6-1. Thailand won 3 matches and Japan won 2 matches.
