Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation.The first round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Hong Kong at the 2006 Davis Cup was included in Asia/Oceania Zone. It was included in the group II. Hong Kong was placed in Group II along with Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand and Pacific Oceania. Hong Kong sent their players with great hopes.
Participation and Performance of Chile in the 2006 Davis Cup
The first round matches were held from 10th to 12th February 2006. Hong Kong at the 2006 Davis Cup contested directly in the first round. The matches between Hong Kong and Pacific Oceania were played at Hong Kong, China on hard court. Wing Luen “Wayne” Wong from Hong Kong defeated Michael Leong from Pacific Oceania by 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4. Hiu-Tung Yu from Hong Kong was defeated by West Nott from Pacific Oceania by 6-7, 4-6 and 4-6. Pair of Martin Sayer and Wing Luen “Wayne” Wong from Hong Kong defeated pair of Michael Leong and West Nott from Pacific Oceania by 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2. Hiu-Tung Yu defeated Juan Sebastien Langton by 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0. Michael Lai defeated Brett Baudinet by 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4. Hong Kong won 4 matches while Pacific Oceania won just single match. Hong Kong advanced to the 2nd round. The matches in the 2nd round were played from 7th to 9th April 2006. The matches between Hong Kong and Indonesia were played at Surabaya, Indonesia. Prima Simpatiaji from Indonesia defeated Wing Luen “Wayne” Wong from Hong Kong by 6-4, 6-3, 2-6 and 6-3. Indonesia’s Febi Widhiyanto defeated Hiu-Tung Yu from Hong Kong by 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4. Indonesia’s pair, Suwandi Suwandi and Bonit Wiryawan defeated Hong Kong’s pair, Wing Luen “Wayne” Wong and Hiu-Tung Yu by 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2. Indonesia’s Prima Simpatiaji defeated Michael Lai by 7-5, 6-2. Febi Widhiyanto defeated Jason Sankey by 6-3, 6-0.
