Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation.The first round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Guatemala at the 2006 Davis Cup competed in Americas Zone. It was included in the group II. Guatemala was placed in group II of Americas Zone. Other teams in this group were Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Netherlands Antilles, Paraguay and Uruguay. The players from Guatemala could not show good performance.
Participation and Performance of Guatemala in the 2006 Davis Cup
Guatemala at the 2006 Davis Cup didn’t perform well. The Play-offs were held from 7th to 9th April. The matches between Guatemala and Jamaica were played at Montego Bay, Jamaica on hard court. Jamaica won 3 matches, while Guatemala won 2 matches. The matches in the first round were played from 10th to 12th February. Guatemala played their matches against Netherlands Antilles at Emmastad, Curacao on hard court. Jean-Julien Rojer from Netherlands Antilles defeated Israel Morales from Guatemala by 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1. Rasid Winklaar was defeated by Cristian Paiz from Guatemala by 6-3, 4-6, 6-7, 7-5 and 4-6. Pair of Raoul Behr and Jean-Julien Rojer defeated pair of Cristian Paiz and Luis Perez-Chete by 6-4, 7-6 and 6-3. Jean-Julien Rojer from Netherlands Antilles defeated Cristian Paiz from Guatemala by 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3. Guatemala was able to win 2 matches. Netherlands Antilles won 3 matches. As a result, Guatemala could not forward to 2nd round.
