The first round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Germany at the 2006 Davis Cup was placed in the World Group. Germany’s team included following players:

Germany played in the World Group. Other countries in the World group were Croatia, Austria, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, Belarus, Australia, Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Russia, Chile, Romania, United States and Slovak Republic. But Germany’s players could not put good performance.

Pair from France, Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra defeated Germany’s pair, Tommy Haas and Alexander Waske by 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-1. Germany’s Rainer Schuettler defeated Arnaud Clement from France by 6-4, 6-3. France’s Michael Llodra was defeated by Germany’s Tommy Haas by 6-3, 6-3. France won 3 matches while Germany won 2 matches. The losers in the first round competed in Play-off ties with Zonal group I qualifiers. The matches in the Play-off ties were played from 22nd to 24th September. Germany showed good performance in World Group Play-offs. The matches between Germany and Thailand were played at Dusseldorf, Germany on clay-court. Germany won 4 matches and Thailand won just single match.
