Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation.The first round matches were played from 10th to 12th February. The finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Georgia at the 2006 Davis Cup competed in Europe/Africa Zone. It was placed in the group II. Georgia’s team included following players:

Georgia played in Europe/Africa Zone. It was placed in Group II. Other countries in group II were Egypt, Cyprus, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Latvia and South Africa. Georgia sent their players with great hopes. Georgia’s players proved themselves by their wonderful performance.
Participation and Performance of Georgia in the 2006 Davis Cup
The matches in the first round were played from 7th to 9th April 2006. Georgia at the 2006 Davis Cup played directly in the first round. Georgia played their matches against South Africa at Tbilisi, Georgia. Georgia’s Irakli Labadze defeated South Africa’s Izak Vander Merwe by 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3. Lado Chikhladze from Georgia was defeated by South Africa’s Wesley Moodie. Georgia’s pair defeated South African pair. Wesley Moodie from South Africa defeated Irakli Labadze from Georgia by 7-5, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 and 11-13. Georgia’s Lado Chikhladze defeated South Africa’s Izak Vander Merwe by 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3. Georgia won 3 matches and South Africa won 2 matches. Georgia forwarded to the 2nd round. The matches were played from 21st to 23rd July. The matches between Georgia and Poland were played at Gdynia, Poland on clay court. Irakli Labadze and Lado Chikhladze showed wonderful performance and defeated Poland’s players. Georgia won 3 matches while Poland won 2 matches. Georgia advanced to the 3rd round. The matches were played from 22nd to 24th September. The matches between Georgia and Hungary were played at Budapest, Hungary. Irakli Labadze was defeated by Sebo Kiss by 6-1, 6-3, 2-6 and 6-4. Hungary’s Kornel Barsoczky defeated Georgia’s Lado Chikhladze by 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 and 6-2. Georgia’s pair, Lado Chikhladze and Irakli Labadze defeated Hungary’s pair, Kornel Barsoczky and Gergely Kisgyorgy by 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2. Georgia’s Irakli Labadze defeated Hungary’s Kornel Barsoczky by 7-6, 6-1, 6-7, 1-6 and 6-4. Hungary’s Sebo Kiss was defeated by Georgia’s Lado Chikhladze by 6-7, 6-7, 7-6 and 2-6. Georgia won 3 matches and Hungary won 2 matches.
