Group I and Group II played knockout tournaments. Group III and IV played round-robin finals took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Ecuador at the 2006 Davis Cup was placed in Americas Zone. It was included in the group I. The team of Ecuador was as follows:

Countries at the 2006 Davis Cup
Group I of Americas Zone along with Ecuador included following countries: Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Canada. Players from Ecuador played with determination. But it was of no use. They lost all the matches in the second round.
Participation and Performance of Ecuador in the 2006 Davis Cup
The matches in the 1st round were played from 10th to 12th February. Ecuador received ‘Bye’ in the first match. The matches in the second round were played from 7th April to 9th April. Ecuador played the first set of matches against Brazil at Cuenca, Ecuador. In the first match, Flavio Saretta from Brazil defeated Giovanni Lapentti from Ecuador by 7-6, 6-4. But after 2 sets, both players retired. In the second match, Brazil’s Ricardo Mello defeated Ecuador’s Nicolas Lapentti by 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 5-7 and 6-4. Brazil’s pair, Marcos Daniel and Andre Sa defeated Ecuador’s pair, Carlos Avellan and Nicolas Lapentti by 7-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Flavio Saretta from Brazil defeated Carlos Avellan from Ecuador by 6-4, 6-4. The match between Marcos Daniel and Julio-Cesar Campozano was not played. Thus Ecuador lost all the four matches.
