Introduction

The 2006 Davis Cup was the most important tournament in the world of men’s tennis. It was the 95th edition of this prestigious tournament. 16 teams competed in the World Group and a total of 125 nations in other groups. 10th to 12th February saw the first round matches while the final took place from 1st to 3rd December at Moscow, Russia. Costa Rica at the 2006 Davis Cup competed in the Americas Zone. Costa Rica was included in the group III. The team of Costa Rica at the Davis Cup was as follows:

Along with Costa Rica, group III included many other teams as well. The nations that had sent their players to play against one another in the group III of the Americas zone were Bahamas, Cuba, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago. All the contestants from Costa Rica had worked hard and were ready to showcase their finest talents to the entire world.

Participation and Performance of Costa Rica Chile in the 2006 Davis Cup

Costa Rica at the 2006 Davis Cup was placed in the group B for the round robin matches. on the 14th of June, Costa Rica played against Haiti at the Maya Country Club, Nueva San Salvador, El Salvador. In these matches, the players from Haiti proved to be better than the Costa Rican competitors. Costa Rica won just a single match while Haiti won two matches. In the second set of matches against Cuba, Costa Rica repeated its performance and the exact same results were yielded. However on the 16th of June, Costa Rica played against El Salvador. This time, Costa Rica won two matches and lost just a single match out of the three that it played. Thus, at the end of the round robin tournament, Costa Rica stood at the third spot in its group and was sent to compete in the 5th to 8th position play off matches. In the play off matches, Costa Rica won against Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago. Thus, with a total of two wins to its name, Costa Rica stood at the 6th position in the final rankings of its group.

On the whole, performance of Costa Rica at the 2006 Davis Cup was satisfactory.
