Countries at the 2006 Davis Cup
Including Colombia, eight nations were classified in this group for the tournament. The remaining seven nations were Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, Netherlands, Paraguay and Uruguay. Contestants in all the teams were very determined to give their best shot and had a secret desire to make their nation proud.
Participation and Performance of Colombia in the 2006 Davis Cup
Colombia at the 2006 Davis Cup played the matches in the first round of the tournament against Uruguay. In these matches, the Colombians displayed a unique passion for the game. The performance given by them was outstanding. They won four out of the total five matches that were played. Thus, Colombia successfully advanced to the 2nd round of the tournament. The second round was played from 7th to 9th of April against Paraguay. These matches were held at the America Tennis Club, Bogota, Colombia. In the first match, Santiago Giraldo was defeated by Ramon Delgado. The next four matches however proved to be fatal for Paraguay since the Colombian players burst out on court with their aggressive game. Out of the total five matches, four were won by Colombia. Thus, Colombia advanced to the 3rd and the final round of the tournament. In this round as well, the Colombian players continued their magic. Dominican Republic was paired opposite Colombia in the final round. In the first match, Alejandro Falla defeated Jhonson Garcia in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. In the second match, Santiago Giraldo established a win over Victor Estrella 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, 4-0. In the next three matches, Colombian players once again gave a fine performance and won all the three matches. Thus, at the end of the third round, Colombia had won all the five matches that it played against Dominican Republic.
