Countries at the 2006 Davis Cup

The group I of the Asia/Oceania zone comprised 8 teams. Along with the Chinese Taipei, nations that had sent their topmost players were China P.R., India, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. The noteworthy part of the teams in this group was that each and every player put in his heart and soul in the performance and that showed off on court.

Participation and Performance of Chinese Taipei in the 2006 Davis Cup

Chinese Taipei at the 2006 Davis Cup directly competed in the first round which was held from the 10th to the 12th of February. For the first round, Chinese Taipei competed against Pakistan. The matches were held in Taipei Tennis Club, Taipei, Chinese Taipei. In the first match, Ti Chen from Chinese Taipei had to face a defeat when Aisam Qureshi won the match by 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. The second match however, provided relief to the players in the Chinese Taipei team. Yeu – Tzuoo Wang defeated Aqeel Khan in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. Then the men’s doubles match was played and the spectators got to enjoy many ‘AHA’ moments. Players from both the teams gave their best shot. However, the Chinese Taipei team lost the match by 6-1, 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 7-9. This loss however did not stop the Chinese Taipei contenders! Chinese Taipei won the next two matches. Thus, in the first round, out of the total five matches, Chinese Taipei won three and progressed to the 2nd round. In the 2nd round of the tournament, Chinese Taipei battled it out against the Republic of Korea. In this leg of the tournament, the Korean players proved to be far better than the Chinese Taipei players since then won four of the five matches. The match between Yeu – Tzuoo Wang and Woong – Sun Jun was the only match that the Chinese Taipei team won. Thus, Chinese Taipei was out of the tournament at the end of the second round.

On the whole, performance of Chinese Taipei at the 2006 Davis Cup was good. The team lost in the 2nd round of the tournament and missed its chance to advance in the World Group for the next Cup.
