Countries at the 2006 Davis Cup

The group I of the Asia/Oceania zone comprised 8 teams. Along with the China P.R., nations that had sent their topmost players were Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. The noteworthy part of the teams in this group was that each and every player put in his heart and soul in the performance and that showed off on court.

Participation and Performance of China, P.R. in the 2006 Davis Cup

China, P.R. at the 2006 Davis Cup initially played in the second round play offs which were held from the 22nd to 24th September. In this leg of the tournament, China, P.R. played against Pakistan. All the Chinese players proved to be far more talented than the Pakistanis and hence won all the five matches that they played. After this, the first round play offs were held from the 7th to the 9th of April. China, P.R. competed in this round with equal determination and dedication. Uzbekistan was the opponent of China, P.R. this time. In this leg, the Chinese contenders fumbled under pressure and lost all the three matches. However, Chine, P.R. advanced to the first round of the tournament successfully. Then, in the first round, the Chinese were paired opposite the aggressive players from Japan. Despite the tough fight given by the Chinese contestants, they failed to win even a single match. Players from Japan completely dominated all the matches and forced China, P.R. to face a defeat. Thus, China, P.R. was out of the Davis Cup tournament in the first round itself.

On the whole, performance of China, P.R. at the 2006 Davis Cup was worth praise. All the players from the country pour their heart and soul in their game. However, no extreme performances were shown by the players and so China, P.R. remained in group I of its zone. The nation was neither promoted nor relegated to any of the other groups.
