Participation and Performance of Barbados in the 2006 Davis Cup

All the teams in the group IV of the Americas zone directly played in the round robin leg of the tournament. On the 14th of June, at the Maya Country Club, Neuva San Salvador, El Salvador, Barbados played against US Virgin Islands. Out of the three matches, Barbados won only one match while lost the remaining two. The next set of matches however yielded good results. The players from Barbados displayed good talent and won all the three matches against Bermuda. Then, on the 17th and 18th of June, Barbados played against St. Lucia and Panama respectively. Both the matches gave out same results with Barbados winning two of the three matches and losing one. Thus, at the end of the round robin matches,

Barbados stood at the first position in its group having won three sets of matches and lost only a single one. All the players and fans back home were extremely happy since their nation had emerged as the topmost team and had secured a place in the upper group of the zone.
On the whole, performance of Barbados at the 2006 Davis Cup was extraordinary. Barbados was promoted to the group III of the Americas zone in 2007.
