Countries at the 2006 Davis Cup
The group III of the Asia/Oceania zone consisted of a total eight teams. Those eight teams were Bahrain, Bangladesh, Iran, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The matches of this group gave out some surprising results. Reputed teams put up a poor performance and had to be relegated whereas the teams which had given sub standard performances in the previous cups were promoted to higher groups.
Participation and Performance of Bahrain in the 2006 Davis Cup
Bahrain at the 2006 Davis Cup was placed in the group B of the round robin leg of the tournament. The first set of matches that Bahrain played was on the 19th of July against Bangladesh. Out of the three matches, Bahrain won two and lost one. However in the next set of matches against Saudi Arabia, players from Bahrain failed to maintain their endurance and lost two matches to the opponent. Just a single match was won against Saudi Arabia. The third set yielded absolutely poor result for the Bahrain team. All the three matches were lost to the players from Iran. Thus, at the end of the round robin leg, Bahrain was sent to compete in the 5th to 8th position play off matches.
