Participation and Performance of Andorra in the 2006 Davis Cup

In the round robin tournament, Andorra played against Lithuania. However in the first set of matches, Andorra had to face a terrible defeat. Players from Lithuania proved to be far better than the contenders from Andorra and won all the three matches while Andorra landed losing all the three. Competitors from Andorra were defeated in straight sets by the rival team. The next country that Andorra played against in the round robin tournament was Armenia. Out of the three matches, one match yielded a good result for Andorra whereas the remaining two matches were won by Armenia. Even in the third set of matches in the round robin tournament, players from Andorra displayed a poor performance and lost all the three games to Estonian competitors.

Thus, at the end of the round robin tournaments, Andorra stood in the bottom two of its group and was sent to compete in the 5th to 8th play offs. Even in the play off matches, Andorra did not improve on its performance and lost all the matches except one. However, this one game was not enough for the nation to maintain its place in the group. Having stood at the last position, Andorra was relegated.
At the end of all the rounds, Andorra at the 2006 Davis Cup stood at the last position in its group and was relegated to group IV for the 2007 tournament.
